Sulfuric acid

Sulfuric acid (chemical formula: H2SO4), is the most important oxygen containing acid of sulfur, acidic. Anhydrous sulfuric acid is a colorless oily liquid that crystallizes at 10.36℃.

It is commonly used in a variety of aqueous solutions of different concentrations, obtained by tower and contact methods. The former is coarse dilute sulfuric acid, the mass fraction is generally about 75%; The latter produces concentrated sulfuric acid with mass fraction of 98.3%, boiling point of 338℃ and relative density of 1.84.

Sulfuric acid is one of the most active binary inorganic strong acids and can react with most metals. High concentration of sulfuric acid has strong water absorption, can be used as a dehydrating agent, carbonized wood, paper, cotton and linen fabrics and biological flesh and other substances containing carbohydrates. When mixed with water, large amounts of heat energy are also released. It has strong corrosive and oxidizing properties, so it should be used with caution.

It is an important industrial raw material, which can be used in the manufacture of fertilizer, medicine, explosives, pigments, detergents, batteries and so on. It is also widely used in the purification of oil, metal smelting and dye industry. It is commonly used as a chemical reagent and can be used as dehydrating agent and sulfonating agent in organic synthesis.
